On Sept. 14, His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo celebrated Mass at Sts. Martha and Mary Parish in Mississauga, Ont. – the feast day of the Exaltation of the Cross.

The feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross celebrates two historical events: the discovery of the True Cross in Jerusalem by Saint Helena, the mother of the Emperor Constantine, and the dedication of the basilica and shrine built on Calvary by Constantine, which mark the site of the Crucifixion.

During the Cardinal’s homily, he emphasized the importance of carrying our cross, and how the Lord has our names written in his heart.

After the Mass that was concelebrated by Bishop John Corriveau, Fr. Bob Barringer and pastor Fr. Xavier De Pinto, Cardinal Leo graciously spent time in the hall greeting over 300 parishioners for several hours.

This year marks the parish’s 58th anniversary.

Thanks to all those who worked so diligently to welcome Cardinal Leo for this special occasion.
